This research shows that it is possible to produce water-soluble alkyd resins by using a significant amount of post-consumer PET bottles in the resin formulation. Most of the properties of these resins are similar to those of a good-quality control resin obtained in the usual way from monomers. It is also interesting to find that the resins obtained from PET behave in a more convenient way when diluted with water allowing a reduction in the overall amount of organic cosolvents, and, in turn, a reduction in pollution. Finally, it is very important to note that the overall cost of the resins produced using recycled PET is significantly lower than the cost of the control resin, leading to a very important driving force for recycling.

Abstract
This research shows that it is possible to produce water-soluble alkyd resins by using a significant amount of post-consumer PET bottles in the resin formulation. Most of the properties of these resins are similar to those of a good-quality control resin obtained in the usual way from monomers. It is also interesting to find that the resins obtained from PET behave in a more convenient way when diluted with water allowing a reduction in the overall amount of organic cosolvents, and, in turn, a reduction in pollution. Finally, it is very important to note that the overall cost of the resins produced using recycled PET is significantly lower than the cost of the control resin, leading to a very important driving force for recycling.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
