L'economia del sacro a Marzabotto

The paper analyzes the different raw materials used to develop the economy of the sacred in Marzabotto. From stone to metal, clay, wood and food resources, the study illustrates the effort that the city put in place at the time of its foundation, not only for sacred architecture, but also to start and develop productive and commercial activities that revolve around to the sacred. The analysis, tracing the different productions destined to religious activities, highlights a pre-eminent role of the city in the surrounding territory, as a gathering place and point of attraction for seasonal activities, probably related to the sacred. A new image of the city emerges. The sacred in Marzabotto is not an aspect resulting from the urban structure of the town, but rather it is the premise from which it generates the social, cultural and economic development of the city.
