UNESCO’s Report Reimagining our futures together: a new social contract for education (2021) claims that to create peaceful, just and sustainable futures, education itself should be transformed by changing the system of relations between men and women, but also between them, the planet, and technology. After a brief outline of previous UNESCO’s reports in education, this paper analyses the ways in which the idea of a “new social contract” can foster the development of a new transformative pedagogy. Finally, global citizenship education is introduced as a valuable pedagogical device incorporating various themes and perspectives to promote widespread planetary responsibility.

Abstract
UNESCO’s Report Reimagining our futures together: a new social contract for education (2021) claims that to create peaceful, just and sustainable futures, education itself should be transformed by changing the system of relations between men and women, but also between them, the planet, and technology. After a brief outline of previous UNESCO’s reports in education, this paper analyses the ways in which the idea of a “new social contract” can foster the development of a new transformative pedagogy. Finally, global citizenship education is introduced as a valuable pedagogical device incorporating various themes and perspectives to promote widespread planetary responsibility.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
