The article focuses on the three Italian translations of the Divān written by the fourteenth-century Persian poet Ḥāfeẓ of Shiraz. The comparative examination of the translation strategies adopted by the three translators is carried out on the example of two lyrical compositions (ghazal) by Ḥāfeẓ, analysed in particular from three points of view: the question of the gender of the person described by Ḥāfeẓ, bearing in mind that there is no grammatical gender in Persian; the question of the Italian rendering of culturally-marked terms; and the question of the cases of polysemy and amphibology which are abundant in Hafezian poetry.

Abstract
The article focuses on the three Italian translations of the Divān written by the fourteenth-century Persian poet Ḥāfeẓ of Shiraz. The comparative examination of the translation strategies adopted by the three translators is carried out on the example of two lyrical compositions (ghazal) by Ḥāfeẓ, analysed in particular from three points of view: the question of the gender of the person described by Ḥāfeẓ, bearing in mind that there is no grammatical gender in Persian; the question of the Italian rendering of culturally-marked terms; and the question of the cases of polysemy and amphibology which are abundant in Hafezian poetry.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
