Politicizzazione, valori, oggettività. Un’ipotesi di lavoro

The article aims to discuss the epistemic dimension of politicizing practices. The general framework adopted for this purpose is provided by pragmatist social philosophy. In the first part, the concept of politicization introduced into the debate by Hay is analyzed. Through a critical development of Hay’s model, I will propose a two-stage model of politicization – contestability and redetermination. In the second part of the article, the question of the relationship between politicization and science is discussed. Starting from the framework introduced by Dewey and developed by Anderson, I will suggest rejecting the idea that science is value-free, without thereby dismissing objectivity. The concluding section of the article anticipates a possible use of the model of politicization presented here for the purpose of overcoming a dichotomic conception of the relationship between science and politicization.
