This volume is the first full Italian translation of the famous love epistolary in verse included in Fakhr al-Din Gorgāni's Vis and Rāmin (11th cent.), a long poem that becomes a model in Persian literature and perhaps also influenced the Tristan cycle, with which the work has many thematic and structural affinities. It consists of ten passionate letters (dah-nāmé) from the beautiful Vis to Prince Rāmin, focusing on infidelity and cruelty in love, followed by the beloved's replies. This epistolary - in rhymed couplets - constitutes a fascinating treatise on love in verse that reflects the courtly concepts and rituals of the Persian Middle Ages. In the introductory essay (pp. 19-128), the editor dwells on various aspects of this famous love story and describes the rich and multifaceted development of the epistolary genre in verse in medieval Persian literature; she also offers an extensive annotated summary of the overall work with the translation of more than 2300 distichs. The volume includes a preface (pp. 9-17) by the romance philologist Mario Mancini.

Il volume è la prima traduzione integrale italiana del celebre epistolario amoroso in versi inserito nel Vis e Rāmin di Fakhr al-Din Gorgāni (XI sec.), un poema persiano che s’impone come modello nella letteratura autoctona e forse influenzerà anche il ciclo di Tristano, con il quale l’opera ha non poche affinità tematiche e strutturali. Si tratta di dieci lettere (dah-nāmé) appassionate della bella Vis al principe Rāmin, incentrate su infedeltà e crudeltà in amore, cui seguono le risposte dell’amato. Questo epistolario – in distici a rime baciate - costituisce un affascinante trattato d’amore in versi che riflette le concezioni e i rituali cortesi del medioevo persiano. La curatrice nel saggio introduttivo (pp. 19-128) si sofferma su vari aspetti di questa celebre storia d’amore e descrive il ricco e multiforme sviluppo del genere epistolare in versi nella letteratura persiana medievale; infine offre anche un’ampia sintesi commentata dell’opera complessiva con la traduzione italiana di oltre 2300 distici. Il volume comprendere una prefazione (pp. 9-17) del filologo romanzo Mario Mancini.
