Reports preliminary results regarding the petrological, geochemical and stratigraphic investigations on the "andesitic' volcanic products of Lipari Island. The earlist magmatic activity is characterized by calc-alkaline products, mostly basaltic-andesite (BA) flows with similar mineralogical composition (pl, cpx, opx, ol). The volcanic succession continues with (HKCA) andesitic flows (A) much different geochemically and mineralogically with respect to the (BA) products (pl, opx, cpx, amph, Ti-mt). Petrological and geochemical features indicate that (BA) flows are poorly evolved terms derived from subcrustal magmas by fractional crystallization. The more evolved (BA) terms and (A) remained in crustal magma chambers, where fractional crystallization and assimilation processes occurred. Cordierite bearing andesitic lavas were discovered as pebbles in the conglomerates of the Tyrrhenian eustatic terrace. This fact indicates that cordierite-bearing lavas must be considered of pre-Tyrrhenian age. -from English summary

Abstract
-from English summaryI documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
