The review critically examines the recent volume by Vernon L. Smith 'Rationality in Economics. Constructivist and Ecological Forms' (Cambridge, Cambridge University Press, 2008) by calling attention to Vernon L. Smith's attempt to find a common background behind the two principal forms of rationality explored in economic analysis, that is, constructivist rationality (focused on the deductive processes of human reason) and ecological rationality (focused on the adaptive structure of reasoning). It is emphasized that, according to Vernon L. Smith, rationality in economics is ultimateloy dependent on coevolution of contexts and attitudes, so that successful rationality of the constructivist type is ultimately the rational reconstruction of a social order generated through history and interactions.
