The exact function of the Palace of the Giants, built in the first decades of the fifth century in the Athenian Agora, is not known with certainty. The various hypotheses on its function and the problem of re-uses are taken into consideration, in relation to the chronology of the dismission of the monumental area and the construction of the post-Herulian walls. It is possible that the Palace was a praetorium, built during the reign of Theodosius II, in conjunction with an administrative reform in Achaea and with a specific interest of the imperial family for Athens.
