The travelogue written by the mysterious Frenchman known as Sieur Poullet describes his journey to the levant between 1657 and 1665. While crossing the Balkan peninsula he notices many aspects related to local musical cultures and traditions but does not make a distinction between their slavic or Turkish origin. As many other western travellers at that time, he describes Balkan music from the european point of view and therefore demonstrates the ancient western perception of this lands and cultures as inferior and undeveloped. on the other hand, however, he also reveals a rich soundscape even if he is not able to describe it with a specific musical terminology.
