The effect of viscous dissipation in the analysis of fully developed forced convection with slug flow in a circular tube is considered. The fully developed temperature profile is determined for various axial distributions of wall heat flux. It is shown that any axial distribution of wall heat flux which asymptotically vanishes yields a vanishing asymptotic value of the Nusselt number. Moreover, for the wall heat flux distributions which asymptotically tend to a constant value or tend to infinity, the asymptotic value of the Nusselt number is determined analytically as a function of the Brinkman number and of a dimensionless parameter which depends on the asymptotic behaviour of the wall heat flux. A comparison with the model in which viscous dissipation is neglected is performed.
