Among the issues of the contemporary condition, a particularly important role seems to be assumed by the search for a progressive reduction of the urban sprawl and the soil sealing and by sustainable regeneration actions in existing urban areas. The reflection on the future of a possible reinterpretation of the phenomenological reality towards these issues and the relative implications on the architectural and urban project raises many questions. Without imagining to lessen such a complex topic in a few questions, this paper aims to help provide some hypotheses in response, among others, to some questions: - Which are the interventions needed -i.e. demolition, replacement, extension, recovery- for a sustainable urban regeneration? - Is it possible to hypothesize "densification" and "rearrangement" actions that are aimed at the sustainable recovery of existing urban areas? - More generally, according to which criteria, strategies and methods can morphological studies guide the urban renewal project? - And, finally, are these interventions feasible in the current planning and regulatory context?

Abstract: | Among the issues of the contemporary condition, a particularly important role seems to be assumed by the search for a progressive reduction of the urban sprawl and the soil sealing and by sustainable regeneration actions in existing urban areas. | |
