The paper illustrates the application of resilience theory and adaptive cycle to the archaeology of earthquakes in medieval Europe. It draws from case studies from Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece and Cyprus, among the others, and stresses the complex 'chaîne opératoire' of responses undertaken by medieval societies affected by major seismic catastrophes.
