Civic education was introduced as a transversal subject into schools of all levels in the academic year 2020/21, in line with the current legislation (L.92/2019). This has reopened the debate around the theoretical assumptions and ethical-political implications of an approach that has long been the subject of critical attention among the pedagogical scientific community. The monographic section of this issue of Pedagogia Oggi is presented according to different disciplinary per-spectives on education and through this series of rigorous pedagogical reflections aims to nourish the public dis-cussion around a theme which has proved controversial and at times even divisive. In this regard, viewing the subject in terms of the axes used for its development in school contexts – the constitution, sustainable develop-ment, and digital citizenship – this issue of Pedagogia Oggi presents studies and research that investigate civic education within a conceptual horizon that is pedagogically broader and certainly more complex than civic ed-ucation. This is a construct from which many compelling questions emerge in the global and heterogeneous, plural and ever-evolving debates that engage our societies and schools.
La recente legge (L. 92/2019) che ha introdotto dall’anno scolastico 2020/21 l’educazione civica come materia trasversale nella scuola di ogni ordine e grado ha riaperto il dibattito sui presupposti teorici e le implicazioni etico-politiche di un approccio da tempo oggetto di attenzione critica da parte della comunità scientifica pedagogica. La sezione monografica di questo numero di Pedagogia Oggi ha inteso alimentare, attraverso una seria e rigorosa riflessione pedagogica, articolata nelle diverse prospettive disciplinari dei saperi sull’educazione, la discussione pubblica intorno a un tema controverso e talvolta divisivo. In tal senso, a partire dagli assi attraverso cui si sviluppa questa materia nei contesti scolastici – Costituzione, sviluppo sostenibile, cittadinanza digitale – il presente numero di Pedagogia Oggi presenta studi e ricerche che indagano l’educazione civica entro l’orizzonte concettuale, peda-gogicamente più ampio e di certo più complesso, della educazione alla cittadinanza. Costrutto, questo, dal quale emergono molteplici questioni cogenti nei contesti globali ed eterogenei, plurali e in permanente evoluzione a cui oggi partecipano le nostre società e le nostre scuole.
