The chapter presents a sociolinguistic angle proposing an overview of the real issues of choosing, or preferring one form of rendering over others. Particularly significant in this contribution is the socio-political stance addressed,: using one tool may already be viewed as an 'a priori' political choice. This stance and the collection of real data from the perspctive of viewers or users of audiovisual translations set out the premises for the debate.
