In the 1970 Italy was the scene of an unexpected escalation of political violence. From 1969 until 1980, repeated neofascist outrages, the formation of groups opting for armed fights in the pursuit of an efficient revolutionary strategy, and the explosion of urban riots, for example in Rome and Bologna in 1977, all increasingly generated diffusion as well as the legitimization of political violence. As a result, the whole decade war labeled "the years of lead". Which kind of social and political conflicts were concealed by that label? What war the political relevance of the armed fight? What was its impact on Italian society as well as on the complex structure of the State's institutions? Which kind of reaction did it provoke? These questions will be addressed in the article.

Abstract
These questions will be addressed in the article.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
