The article takes into consideration the personal narratives of nine women of the Italian diaspora living in Dublin. It explores the informative and performative/transformative nature of their narrative acts. Their analysis reveals how in diaspora, women's narrative practices function as a social strategy to negotiate shifting (gender and diasporic) boundaries. © 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
