In Lucretius' De rerum natura 6,623 f., a textual corruption has caused the repetition of the word venti in two consecutive lines. Most editors accept Cippellarius' emendation of the second venti (l. 624) to ventis, namely a causal ablative belonging to the following proposition; nevertheless, in this case the order verborum would be strange. Others prefer ponti, a humanistic conjecture, which destroys the expressive alliteration in the second hemistich of the line. By comparing this passage with Lucr. 5,266 and 5,388, I suggest that the second venti is genuine, proposing to emend the first one (l. 623) to summa, which must be referred to umorismo.

Abstract
623) to summa, which must be referred to umorismo.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
