Abstract

Since the early 19th century the priest Giuseppe Antonio Ceci created in Taranto a naturalistic-antiquarian collection, which for a long time represented the only institution for the collection and conservation of Tarantine antiquities. This collection housed ancient pieces of art, including several Latin inscriptions pertaining to the municipium of Tarentum. This paper aims to investigate the only known inscription in this collection, namely the epitaph of an anonymous argentarius (CIL IX 236).
