The paper deals with the historical-archaeological and ethnographic evidence of logboats in Italy and in other European regions. In addition to archaeological data, written sources, both ancient and medieval, are examined, documenting the presence and use of logboats in rivers, coastal lakes and lagoon areas. The linguistic relationship between the Indo-European roots for 'ship' and 'boat' that lead back to the archetype of the logboats, i.e. of single hollowed out tree trunk, is also examined.

In addition to archaeological data, written sources, both ancient and medieval, are examined, documenting the presence and use of logboats in rivers, coastal lakes and lagoon areas. The linguistic relationship between the Indo-European roots for 'ship' and 'boat' that lead back to the archetype of the logboats, i.e. of single hollowed out tree trunk, is also examined.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
