L’orientamento astronomico: aspetti tecnici della navigazione fenicio-punica tra retorica e realtà

The paper deals with the astronomical orientation in ancient navigation, with specific reference to Phoenician-Punic navigation, distinguishing between the historical, real aspects, and those that became the subject of rhetoric by the ancient sources. The practices of orientation with the stars, in particular with the circumpolar constellations of Ursa Major and Ursa Minor, and navigation techniques in relation to these elements are discussed.

Il contributo è dedicato all'orientamento astronomico nel mondo della nautica antica, con specifico riferimento alla navigazione fenicio-punica, distinguendo tra gli aspetti storici, reali, e quelli che sono diventati oggetto di retorica da parte delle fonti antiche. Vengono discusse le pratiche dell'orientamento con le stelle, in particolare con le costellazioni circumpolari dell'Orsa Maggiore e Orsa Minore, e le tecniche di navigazione in relazione a questi elementi.
