The paper deals with the topic of apotropaic eyes on the bows of ships from antiquity to the present days, in accordance with a very long-lasting tradition. Through the application or painting of these eyes, seafarers attributed a sort of "soul" to their vessels. The study proceeds through a comparative examination of historical-archaeological and ethnographic data.
Il contributo prende in esame il tema degli occhi apotropaici presenti sulla prua delle navi dall'antichità ai nostri giorni, secondo una tradizione di lunghissima durata. Attraverso l'applicazione o la dipintura di questi occhi le genti di mare attribuivano una specie di "anima" alle proprie imbarcazioni. Lo studio procede attraverso un esame comparativo dei dati storico-archeologici e di quelli etnografici.
