This paper deals with the letter the Emperor Julian sent to Photinus, the heretic bishop of Sirmio (ep. 90 in}. Bidez's edition). It highlights the role Facundus of Hermiane may have played in editing the text of the letter, consequently influencing the readeťs perception. It discusses the relationship between Julian and his correspondent as well as the relationship between Julian and Diodorus of Tarsus, who is hostilely depicted in the letter. Finally it tries to outline the historical background in which Julian's hatred had developed.
