The essay offers a study on the representation of space in Les Bienveillantes (2006) by Jonathan Littell. From a methodological standpoint, the article benefits from the theo-retical tools developed by Trauma Studies, along with Littell’s analysis on the ‘fascist’ language carried out in his essay Le Sec et L’Humide. The work aims at showing the intimate relationship between Maximilien Aue and the external environment, whose description follows the collapse of the narrator’s mind.
Il saggio consiste in uno studio sulla rappresentazione dello spazio in Les Bienveillantes (2006) di Jonathan Littell. Sul piano metodologico, il contributo si avvale degli stru-menti teorici sviluppati dai Trauma Studies e dell’analisi sul linguaggio ‘fascista’ che lo stesso Littell opera nel saggio Il secco e l’umido. Il lavoro mira a evidenziare l’intimo rapporto che intercorre tra Maximilien Aue e l’ambiente esterno, la cui descrizione segue il degenerare della mente del narratore.
