Thanks to the first Dutch Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire, Cornelis Haga, Patriarch Cyril Loukaris (1570-1638) became growingly connected to the Dutch foreign policy and to the Gomarist wing of the Dutch Reformed Church, which operated to spread Calvinism among the Greek Orthodox. One of the most important results of this cooperation was the translation of the New Testament into Modern Greek by ieromonk Maximos of Gallipoli, financed by the Republic of the United Provinces. In this article I present the Italian translation of Loukaris’ preface, after contextualizing the political and theological background of this revolutionary – although unsuccessful – endeavor.

Abstract
Thanks to the first Dutch Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire, Cornelis Haga, Patriarch Cyril Loukaris (1570-1638) became growingly connected to the Dutch foreign policy and to the Gomarist wing of the Dutch Reformed Church, which operated to spread Calvinism among the Greek Orthodox. One of the most important results of this cooperation was the translation of the New Testament into Modern Greek by ieromonk Maximos of Gallipoli, financed by the Republic of the United Provinces. In this article I present the Italian translation of Loukaris’ preface, after contextualizing the political and theological background of this revolutionary – although unsuccessful – endeavor.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
