The article evaluates how the geographical and anthropological information gathered by Alexander von Humboldt during his voyages in America and his subsequent studies was diffused in Italy through the publication of Giulio Ferrario's Costume antico e moderno, a monumental work in 23 volumes published between 1815 and 1835. In the article both texts and images from Humboldt's and Ferrario's works are compared in detail.
