La Mediazione Digitale e nuove forme tecnologiche di discriminazione

The digital transformation of our society towards an Infosphere generate risks of discrimination. Emerging technologies shape new ontologies of reality based on predictions and classifications operated by algorithms capable of inferring new information from personal, non-personal, and mixed datasets. On the basis of this information, outcomes of decision-making processes raise concerns for their impact on vulnerable individuals and the likelihood of new forms of discrimination. The article offers examples of such discriminations and discusses vulnerability theories that contribute to better conceptualise digital rights and enhance the role of digital citizenship mediation to support vulnerable individuals. The discussion is also carried out in the light of proposed pieces of legislation in the European union, including the Data Governance Act and the Artificial Intelligence Act.
