The research is part of an ongoing project of the Chair of Etruscology of the University of Bologna, focused on the Etruscan necropolis of Valle Trebba at Spina since 2007. The systematic study of the eastern sector (370 burials) allowed both the spatial reconstruction and the ritual analysis. From the 5th to the 3rd century BC, the balsamarium is a cardinal element within the local rituality. In order to shed light on its function and use, the topic will be analyzed from a chronological, distributive, quantitative and productive perspective.

Abstract

The research is part of an ongoing project of the Chair of Etruscology of the University of Bologna, focused on the Etruscan necropolis of Valle Trebba at Spina since 2007. The systematic study of the eastern sector (370 burials) allowed both the spatial reconstruction and the ritual analysis. From the 5th to the 3rd century BC, the balsamarium is a cardinal element within the local rituality. In order to shed light on its function and use, the topic will be analyzed from a chronological, distributive, quantitative and productive perspective.
