Transparent hybrid coatings for plastic substrates were prepared by the sol-gel process, using poly(ethylene oxide) or polycaprolactone and tetraethoxysilane as silica precursor. Both thermal and microwave-assisted curing were used and their effect on anti-scratch properties and photo-oxidation resistance was evaluated. Hybrids were effective coatings for the improvement of the scratch resistance of PC while accelerated artificial ageing (performed under irradiation at 60°C in the presence of oxygen) showed that the coatings increases drastically the resistance to oxidative degradation.

Abstract
Transparent hybrid coatings for plastic substrates were prepared by the sol-gel process, using poly(ethylene oxide) or polycaprolactone and tetraethoxysilane as silica precursor. Both thermal and microwave-assisted curing were used and their effect on anti-scratch properties and photo-oxidation resistance was evaluated. Hybrids were effective coatings for the improvement of the scratch resistance of PC while accelerated artificial ageing (performed under irradiation at 60°C in the presence of oxygen) showed that the coatings increases drastically the resistance to oxidative degradation.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
