The main line of argument in the chapter is that populism should be carefully studied in its particular “habitat,” not least because it reacts to specific historical and societal circumstances. The relation between populism, illiberalism, and constitutional democracy warrants careful, historical and comparative analysis which explores the reasons for the emergence of populism and takes into account the critical positions towards liberalism, the aspirations and stages of populist projects, and the actual practices of populist parties.

Abstract
The main line of argument in the chapter is that populism should be carefully studied in its particular “habitat,” not least because it reacts to specific historical and societal circumstances. The relation between populism, illiberalism, and constitutional democracy warrants careful, historical and comparative analysis which explores the reasons for the emergence of populism and takes into account the critical positions towards liberalism, the aspirations and stages of populist projects, and the actual practices of populist parties.File in questo prodotto:
