The essay focuses on the most relevant amendments under European Commission’s Proposals No. 577 and 579 of 2020 for the development of the Single European Sky (SES). In particular, one of the major amendments consists in the introduction of a new mechanism for the designation of air traffic service providers which will no longer be chosen by Member States at their own discretion but selected by tender. Another novelty is represented by the establishment of a permanent Performance Review Body (PRB) function, to be exercised by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
