Opening the special issue on "Food for Thought" of the Brasilian Journal Tessituras, this article reviews the sociology of food and places particular attention to the way food practices, with the development of alternative food circuits, are politically charged for social and market change. Food consumption and sustainablity are discussed to shed light on the contemporary politics of food.
