In this essay I will analyze all the plays by the Italian writer Claudio Magris, who after many translations and studies on theatre classics as Grillparzer, Büchner, Ibsen, came to experiment himself his own dramaturgy. Focusing my attention on the core conflicts which are shown on the stage and in the texts, as the master and servant Hegelian dialectic, the struggle between formalization and living life, and the status of the artist in the bourgeois society I’ll read the major plays Stadelmann, about Goethe’s servant, and La mostra, based on the life of the italian-austrian painter Vito TImmel. In the reading of the three monologues, or monodramas (Le voci, Essere già stati, Lei dunque capirà) I’ll concentrate much more on the structure and the uses of death theme as a form to approach a sort of postdramatic dramaturgy according to Hans-Thies Lehmann, as a possibility to overcome the crisis of the bourgeois conception of drama.

Abstract
