En-route video portals onboard high-speed trains have developed as increasingly refined libraries of cinema and television-like contents, helping to shape the travel service offered to passengers. Grounded both on a historical and production studies-oriented perspective, the essay focuses on the major cases offered by the two rail companies operating in Italy, with the aim to sketch the rise of cinema cars in the Country and the evolution of the commercial and industrial strategies implied, with specific regard to the process of audiovisual distribution.
