The article investigates the relation between the domestic theatrical success and the television ratings of all the Italian films from the last seven years that grossed more than € 1 million at the box office and were broadcasted in prime time on the national generalist channels. Such a relation is considerably complicated by a number of intervening variables concerning, for example, TV scheduling, the channels airing the films, some specific content characteristics, and audience demographics. The article underlines, most notably, the relevance of regional consumption to differentiating the theatrical viewings from the TV viewings of the same film.

Abstract
The article investigates the relation between the domestic theatrical success and the television ratings of all the Italian films from the last seven years that grossed more than € 1 million at the box office and were broadcasted in prime time on the national generalist channels. Such a relation is considerably complicated by a number of intervening variables concerning, for example, TV scheduling, the channels airing the films, some specific content characteristics, and audience demographics. The article underlines, most notably, the relevance of regional consumption to differentiating the theatrical viewings from the TV viewings of the same film.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
