The aim of this article is to examine how the conditions of a specific disadvantaged population, young people from working class households, could be endangered in terms of poverty and social exclusion in two different national and local contexts. In fact, there are specific conditions, which may vary from one environment to another and can increase or decrease these risks. We will focus in particular on social trajectories, experiences and practices of young people residing in these two relatively poor and deprived, lower-class neighbourhoods. One of our main objectives is to understand if, and if so how, neighbourhood poverty can affect the opportunities and social outcomes of the young people living there.

Abstract

The aim of this article is to examine how the conditions of a specific disadvantaged population, young people from working class households, could be endangered in terms of poverty and social exclusion in two different national and local contexts. In fact, there are specific conditions, which may vary from one environment to another and can increase or decrease these risks. We will focus in particular on social trajectories, experiences and practices of young people residing in these two relatively poor and deprived, lower-class neighbourhoods. One of our main objectives is to understand if, and if so how, neighbourhood poverty can affect the opportunities and social outcomes of the young people living there.
