This article focuses on a ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union recognising the sole competence of the Independent Supervisory Authorities in the determination of airport charges. Through the analysis of the ruling at stake and the identification of the peculiarities of the Italian law system, the article provides an overview of the main barriers in the implementation of directive 2009/12/EU on airport charges in the Italian legal system.
