Wellington’s experience as prime minister (he was in office from 1828 to 1830, and again as an interim prime minister at the end of 1834) is analysed in the light of his previous life and of the political context of the time. Special attention is paid to the duke’s interpretation of the premiership, especially as to his leadership of the cabinet and to his attitude towards the Crown and the other members of the administration. Wellington’s involvement with Reform is discussed as well: albeit often portrayed by contemporaries as the arch-enemy of Reform, it was the duke who granted emancipation to the Catholics and who, in 1832, seemed even ready to withdraw his opposition to parliamentary reform. All in all, Wellington's premiership marks an important step in the transformation of the British constitution.

Wellington’s involvement with Reform is discussed as well: albeit often portrayed by contemporaries as the arch-enemy of Reform, it was the duke who granted emancipation to the Catholics and who, in 1832, seemed even ready to withdraw his opposition to parliamentary reform.
