Rondini, spille e altre scorie memoriali: strategie del ricordo in Helena Janeczek e Laurent Mauvignier

The neo-historical novel - literary genre which combines the use of documents, testimony and fiction - offers an ideal case study of what Francesco Orlando, in the early Seventies, called the "formal return of the repressed". Proof of this is the emergence, within the texts, of memorial waste which has been ousted from cultural memory. This article will focus on Des hommes (2009) by Laurent Mauvignier and Le rondini di Montecassino (2010) by Helena Janeczek, two récits de filiation that deal with paternal silence originated by historical trauma. Facing the double censorship of both official and familial discourse, memorial waste turns into a fundamental tool for the writers involved. These marginal sources not only become the main subject of their narratives, but they also directly affect the writing process, as shown by the analysis of narrative models (inner monologue, polyphonic epic), textual spaces and rhetorical devices (blancs, mise en abyme). I will contend that, through different approaches, both texts enable a centripetal movement by which what has been previously marginalized seeks to find its place within the cultural memory.

Il romanzo neostorico, forma di scrittura che abbina ricerca documentaria, testimonianza e invenzione romanzesca, costituisce un terreno privilegiato per quel "ritorno del represso formale" teorizzato da Francesco Orlando nei primi anni Settanta. Ne è prova il riemergere, all'interno dei testi, di una pluralità di "scorie memoriali" che, ostacolate nella trasmissione, non hanno trovato spazio nella memoria culturale delle comunità di riferimento. Il presente contributo si sofferma su Des hommes (2009) di Laurent Mauvignier e Le rondini di Montecassino (2010) di Helena Janeczek, due récits de filiation nati dal silenzio paterno legato al trauma storico. Davanti alla duplice censura del discorso ufficiale e familiare, diventa necessario lavorare sulle poche tracce rimaste, scorie memoriali da riportare alla luce. Questi depositi marginali non vengono soltanto eletti a materia del racconto, ma guidano il processo di scrittura direttamente sul piano formale, come risulta dall'analisi dei modelli narrativi (monologo interiore, coralità epica), degli spazi testuali e delle figure impiegate (blancs, mise en abyme). Il mio intento è dimostrare come, mediante diversi approcci, gli autori conducano un medesimo movimento centripeto volto a riportare all'interno della memoria culturale quanto era stato in precedenza posto ai margini.
