The essay aims at exploring how some romance’s recurring elements interact with the narrative of historical facts in Don DeLillo’s Libra and Emmanuel Carrère’s Limonov. Firstly, I will briefly focus on the role that romance might play in contemporary novels based on historical facts. Secondly, I will investigate some key aspects of the two novels. Throughout the work, the archetype of quest is deeply considered with the intention to illustrate how romance can be deployed to critically enlighten the historical context.
