This work introduces different architectures that can be used in order to realize complex software systems and shows how they can be combined in order to apply them in the development of an automatic and intelligent management system of wastewater treatment plants. In particular, it is presented a Event-Driven Service Oriented Architecture, where different independent and reusable modules interact producing and consuming events. These represent every possible change of state that can occur in the managed plant, from the measure of a signal to the detection of the end of a reaction. Internally, the modules can filter, elaborate and combine information carried by events by means of numerical analysis and rules that manage in native way the uncertainty.

Abstract
