The article reviews the book Subaltern Geographies, a collection of essays edited by Tariq Jazeel and Stephen Legg in 2019, published by Georgia University Press. The book comprehends contributions by historians, geographers, and activists. After introducing the text and its main concerns, the article offers a summary of its contents, providing a brief sum for a few relevant contributions. A second section then engages a critical discussion of the book, highlighting and reflecting on its major points of concern. an emphasis is cast on the role of the text’s contribution to postcolonial studies in general, and postcolonial geographies in particular: this is achieved through a valuable, accurate revitalization and employment of the concept of subalternity within a postcolonial geographical frame, that effectively problematizes the very notion of a subaltern space.
