The article focuses upon scribal practices documented for “Valentinian” sources, by picking up one of the main pupils of Valentinus as a test case: Marcus the so called “magician”. In light of the literary evidence at our disposal, it is suggested that Marcus knows and re-works a Greek version of the Coptic Gospel of Truth from Nag Hammadi as a text authored by his teacher. This concluding hypothesis raises in turn further questions which will hopefully open up new paths for future research.

Abstract
The article focuses upon scribal practices documented for “Valentinian” sources, by picking up one of the main pupils of Valentinus as a test case: Marcus the so called “magician”. In light of the literary evidence at our disposal, it is suggested that Marcus knows and re-works a Greek version of the Coptic Gospel of Truth from Nag Hammadi as a text authored by his teacher. This concluding hypothesis raises in turn further questions which will hopefully open up new paths for future research.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
