Mobilità, pandemia ed etica: immaginazioni geografiche

Mobility, pandemic, and ethics: Geographical imaginations – How to reimagine the contemporary world in the light of human mobility: this is the main question addressed in this paper. While being aware that any answer cannot but turn out partial and inchoative, I propose starting from the very concept of geographical imagination and the theoretical resources it provides with relation to today’s challenges. Furthermore, I wonder why one should speak about mobile imaginations in times of Covid-19. In my view, just these times of pandemic and lockdown are reinforcing our awareness that human identity cannot be dissociated from mobility, and mobility, in its turn, has to do with human happiness. Moreover, just in these times of pandemic, like never before, we need to think of otherness as a concept entirely dissociated from any dualistic logic. In order to start reimagining the world this way, I attempt to provide an alternative interpretation of ethics as knowledge about human mobility and also alternative narrative on migration. I explain why this conception of ethics represents the logical and epistemological basis for the oecumene as a model of the world, if chorographically conceived. Hence, I propose restarting from this concept of oecumene in order to inchoatively rethink today’s world and our identities with/in it.

Questo articolo si interroga su come reimmaginare il mondo contemporaneo alla luce della mobilità umana. Nella consapevolezza che ogni risposta non può che risultare parziale e incoativa, propongo di partire da una riflessione sul concetto stesso di immaginazione geografica e sulle risorse teoriche che esso offre per le sfide attuali. Mi chiedo poi quale senso abbia parlare di immaginazioni mobili ai tempi del Covid-19. A mio giudizio, mai come in questi tempi di pandemia e lockdown abbiamo maturato la consapevolezza di come l’identità umana sia imprescindibile dalla mobilità e di come quest’ultima abbia a che fare con la felicità di tutte/i; mai come ora, inoltre, si è avvertita la necessità di una concezione di Altro che si a"ranchi de!nitivamente da logiche duali e oppositive. Per iniziare a reimmaginare il mondo su queste basi, cerco di offrire un’interpretazione alternativa dell’etica in quanto sapere sulla mobilità umana e narrazione altra di migrazione. Spiego poi perché questa concezione di etica sia il fondamento logico ed epistemologico del modello dell’ecumene corogra!camente intesa e perché, di conseguenza, proprio da tale modello geogra!co si possa ripartire per pensare il mondo di oggi e le nostre identità in e con esso.
