The article explores the issue of the sexual abuse of children during the early modern age, intertwining the account of the crime of solicitation in confession with that of the re- pression of sodomy by the three Catholic Inquisitions. The aim of the research is to demonstrate that the sexual violence of the clergy against young boys was sanctioned in a milder form in the Italian peninsula, and that juridical and theological casuistry minimized the crime despite the provisions of the Counter-Reformation popes.
