Mies van der Rohe. Il campo di battaglia dello spirito. / Mies van der Rohe. The battlefield of the spirit.

In 1928, Mies van der Rohe published one of his finest essays for a conference at the Berlin Art Library (Kunstbibliothek): namely, The Preconditions of Architectural Work. What emerges insistently from this essay is the reference to a spiritual order underlying the architectural phenomenon which is strongly related to the life force. But above all there is Mies’ famous saying: “The building art is in reality always the spatial execution of spiritual decisions.” This essay proposes that Mies' famous expression can be linked to the arguments on architecture present in Hegel's aesthetics. In light of this connection, the text presents a different theoretical perspective on the work of Mies van der Rohe.

Nel 1928, in occasione di una conferenza alla Staatliche Kunstbibliothek di Berlino, Mies van der Rohe pubblica uno dei suoi testi più belli: Le premesse della creazione architettonica. In questo scritto emerge forte il rimando a un ordine spirituale sottostante il fenomeno architettonico fortemente relazionato con la forza della vita. Ma soprattutto è presente la celebre espressione in cui Mies afferma: “L’architettura in realtà è sempre l’esecuzione spaziale di decisioni spirituali”. Questo saggio sostiene che si può collegare la celebre espressione di Mies alle argomentazioni sull'architettura presenti nell'estetica di Hegel. Alla luce di questo collegamento il testo presenta una diversa prospettiva teorica del lavoro di Mies van der Rohe.
