The text introduces a collective work on "platform capitalism" written in the framework of the European H2020 research project PLUS (Platform labor in urban spaces). In the introduction we focus on the relevance of the topic and on the main concepts that guide the researc, from platform capitalism to gig economy and digital labor. We also discuss the developments of platforms against the background of the current COVID-19 crisis.
