This chapter proposes a description of the characteristics of TI identified in some examples taken from recordings of interpreter-mediated telephone conversations in a police environment. Initially, some general considerations on interactions mediated by telephone interpreters and on interpretation in a police environment are provided. Subsequently, the intrinsic characteristics of an interpretermediated telephone interaction in a the police setting are described, followed by the analysis of the transcribed materials. In the analysis, careful attention was paid to the phases that were considered decisive in the theoretical and methodological frameworks, such as opening and closing, turn management and use of reported speech, management of difficulties, management of equipment and working tools, or management of cognitive resources. This contribution includes methodological observations, coupled with contextual and situational evaluations which lay the foundations for the design of a specific training in TI both for interpreter trainees and professional interpreters.

Abstract
This contribution includes methodological observations, coupled with contextual and situational evaluations which lay the foundations for the design of a specific training in TI both for interpreter trainees and professional interpreters.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
