The aim of this paper is to compare conditional constructions with indicative finite verbs in Italian and Russian on the basis of the data obtained from the Russian-Italian parallel corpus of the Russian National Corpus. Sentences where the role of the protasis is fulfilled by a prepositional phrase will also be analysed. The results show frequent use of asyndetic conditional constructions with a perfective future tense in the protasis or both in the protasis and the apodosis referred to present, future and past in Russian.

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to compare conditional constructions with indicative finite verbs in Italian and Russian on the basis of the data obtained from the Russian-Italian parallel corpus of the Russian National Corpus. Sentences where the role of the protasis is fulfilled by a prepositional phrase will also be analysed. The results show frequent use of asyndetic conditional constructions with a perfective future tense in the protasis or both in the protasis and the apodosis referred to present, future and past in Russian.
