Abtönung und paralinguistische Elemente in Filmdialogen. Eine empirische Untersuchung anhand der multimedialen Datenbank Forlixt1

As well as verbal elements, an important part of the translation of film dialogue are the paralinguistic elements that play a key role in creating the illusion of ‘spoken’ dialogues: gestures, prosody and their synchrony to the dialogue. This paper tries to shed light on the strategies used by dubbed dialogue writers in the transposition of scenes containing culture specific paralinguistic elements. The analysis is based on the multimedia data base Forlixt 1 (containing 42 Italian and German films and their dubbed versions) which for the first times allows us to study the gestures, prosody and mimicry contained in a wide range of scenes.
